Myrtus Line, the Jewels of Venus

  • Curiosities

The Myrtus collection is a line of Sardinian jewelry dedicated to the myrtle plant, reinterpreting its light and harmonious forms through refined filigree motifs. Known for its slender leaves, delicate white flowers, and its intense, unmistakable fragrance, myrtle carries an ancient and profound symbolic meaning rooted in the myth of Venus, the goddess of beauty.

The noun “myrtle” derives from the Latin Myrtus, itself from the Greek Myron, meaning “perfume,” referring to the characteristic aroma released by the plant´s leaves. Myrtle is a spontaneous species of the Mediterranean regions and is particularly native and widespread in Sardinia, where in the local language it is called sa murta, a feminine noun.

In the Metamorphoses, the Latin poet Ovid recounts that the goddess Venus, emerging from the sea onto the shores of Cythera, wrapped herself in a cloak made of myrtle branches. From that moment on, the plant became associated with Venus, establishing itself as a symbol of beauty and love. Over the centuries, the symbolic connection between Venus and myrtle has remained alive, especially in art, finding one of its most evocative expressions in the works of Sandro Botticelli: in Primavera, the figure of Venus is surrounded by a myrtle plant, while in The Birth of Venus, the Hora of Spring offers her a red cloak adorned with primroses and sprigs of myrtle.

Through traditional Sardinian filigree, we have recreated the branches and leaves of the myrtle, transforming metal into an elegant and airy representation of nature, enhancing its lightness and harmonious forms. The result is a refined piece of jewelry, suitable for all occasions, that tells a timeless myth—an homage to femininity, beauty, and our land.
